Rohit Sharma’s Potential Visit to Pakistan for CT Event Remains Uncertain

There is no exact date yet when the ICC’s Champions Trophy official captains event will be held in Karachi. It is expected to take place on February 16 or 17. The event is historically organized ahead of the CT in the host country. This year, it is Pakistan and the UAE. It is still uncertain whether Indian team leader Rohit Sharma will attend the event.

India-Pakistan Tension Delays Clarity

Due to India-Pakistan political tensions, the teams have not played a series since 2012. They meet only in ICC competitions. Meanwhile, India has not played cricket on Pakistani soil since 2008. It is unknown whether the BCCI has to get the green light from the Indian government so that Sharma can visit the February event. Devjit Saikia, the BCCI’s secretary, shared this information with ESPNcricinfo.

The PCB, the CT hosts, would like the captains of all squads to attend the event, including the photo shoot, opening ceremony, and other festive events. It is noteworthy that India will play its CT 2025 games in UAE, not Pakistan. This decision was taken because of the aforementioned countries’ tensions.

Rules Will Be Enforced

Earlier, some media speculated that the BCCI is against the host country’s name being displayed on the players’ uniforms. The tournament logo, name, and year are also usually displayed on the jersey.

However, Devjit Saikia refuted the speculations. He emphasized that the BCCI will follow the ICC rule during the upcoming tournament. According to him, it applies to all the elements that have to be mentioned on the form. He added that other teams are free to make their own decisions on the matter.
