CAB Enforces BCCI’s New Policy: No Personal Cars for India Players During England Series

The BCCI recently decided to tighten the rules for the Indian senior men’s team to improve its performance. The board has prepared a ten-point policy document and sent it to the state associations where matches between India and England will be played. India will soon host England in five T20Is and three ODIs.

New Rules Already Enforced

India is currently training in Kolkata. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly said the association has organized the national team per the BCCI document. One rule is that players are not allowed to travel in private cars. A team bus is provided for their transfer. It is an unambiguous rule that players must only travel to training and matches together on the bus.

It should be noted that the document also states that all cricketers must leave training together. This is expected to foster a healthy work ethic within the team. If any of the players, for serious reasons, would like to go to a training session or match separately, they must get permission from head coach Gautam Gambhir or head selector.

Not Diktat, but Rules

Commenting on introducing the new rules, the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, said that they should not be perceived as a dictate or punishment of players. He emphasized that the national team has rules, and if you play for them, you must abide by them. It’s simple. They also apply to players’ commitment to feature in domestic cricket if they are not on duty elsewhere.
